APFNet welcomes APEC Economic Leaders’ Declaration


The APFNet Secretariat welcomes the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Declaration, published on 11 November 2014 following the close of the 22ndEconomic Leaders’ Meeting in Beijing, China.


APFNet Executive Director addressed illegal logging at the Asia-Pacific Rainforest Stakeholder Dialogue: striking a balance between trade and forest resources management

On 11 November 2014, the Asia-Pacific Rainforest Stakeholder Dialogue, organized by the Australian Department of Environment, concluded in Sydney, Australia. The Dialogue brought technical and policy experts from governments, international organizations, businesses and non-governmental organizations to identify solutions in reducing rainforest loss. Mr Qu Guilin, Executive Director of APFNet, was invited to the Dialogue and speak as one of the panelists under the theme of combating illegal logging.


APFNet continues its support to Community Development through Forestry to Economically Empower Women and the Marginalized in Nepal

On October 15th, 2014, an Inception Workshop of APFNet funded Project “Support Community Based Sustainable Forest Management and Economic Empowerment of Women in Central Region of Nepal” ([2013]P[4]-NPL) was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, to officially launch the third project through community-based forestry in Nepal.

Mid-term Evaluation successfully concluded for SFR-MMSEA Project

An external mid-term evaluation on the APFNet funded project “Sustainable Forest Management Rehabilitation and Management for the Conservation of Trans-boundary Ecological Security in Montane Mainland Southeast Asia project (“SFR-MMSEA project” for short)” was conducted during September 19-26, 2014 on project sites in China, Laos and Myanmar to check project performance for the first half implementation period from January 2013 to July 2014.

Regional Workshop on Forest Products Statistics successfully held by ITTO, FAO and APFNet

The Regional Workshop on Forest Products Statistics was successfully held during 17-19 September in Kunming, China, gathering 18 participants from forestry authorities, customs departments and academic institutions from Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. Jointly organized by ITTO, FAO and APFNet, the workshop seeks to strengthen data collection on forest products production and reduce discrepancies between trade statistics reported by participating economies.
