SFR-MMSEA project: 3rd annual workshop concluded in Luang Prabang in January 2015

From 26 to 27 January 2015, the 3rd annual workshop of the project: “Sustainable Forest Rehabilitation and Management for the Conservation of Trans-boundary Ecological Security in Montane Mainland Southeast Asia – Pilot Demonstration Project of Lao PDR, Myanmar and China/Yunnan (SFR-MMSEA)” was successfully convened in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR.

Workshop participants consisted of members of the Project Steering Committee (PSC), Project Advisory Group (PAG), partner organizations and international experts. The main purpose of the workshop was to review project progress in 2014 and discuss planning for 2015.

APFNet Scholarship Program Students Experience Winter Culture of Beijing

Initiated APFNet Scholarship Program (ASP) since 2010 for the regional forest talents cultivation, APFNet continues its support for the Program through regular extracurricular activities and cultural events, to help ASP students benefit more. As a tradition, APFNet invited newly enrolled students at Beijing Forestry University (BFU) and program faculty to ski to experience winter in Beijing and visit APFNet secretariat December 18-19, 2014.



Workshop on Mainstreaming Degraded Forest Restoration into Forestry Strategic Plans


In collaboration with the Forestry Administration of Cambodia and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), APFNet organized the Workshop on Mainstreaming Degraded Forest Restoration into Forestry Strategic Plans in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 17 to 19 December 2014. This event is one of the activities proposed by APFNet in 2013 under the Platform for Regional Dialogue on Forestry Strategic Planning.

74 representatives from 14 economies (Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, and Viet Nam) and 5 international/regional organizations (APFNet, FAO, IUCN , RECOFTC , and the Bagong Pagasa Foundation) attended the workshop.


APFNet gathered economies across the Asia-Pacific region to advance forestry human resources development

Bogor, Indonesia, November 27- The Workshop on Forestry Human Resources Development in the Asia-Pacific Region was successfully concluded on November 27, in Bogor, Indonesia, with a consensus in principle on a practical plan to strengthen exchange in forestry human resources development and carry out actions on the ground.

The SFM-NL Steering Committee met in Louang nam tha, Lao


The Steering Committee of the project of Sustainable Forest Management in Northern Provinces of Lao PDR( SFM-NL) held its first meeting in Louang nam tha province, Lao on 14 November, 2014, with Thongphat Vongmany the Director General of Department of Forestry chairing. Over 50 officials and experts from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Nature Resources and Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and provincial project teams and Yunnan Forest Department as well as Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve of China attended the meeting.
