APFNet’s training workshop on timber legality and trade provided a platform for fostering regional cooperation

Sixteen experienced officials, policy-makers, planners and forest resource managers from 11 economies in the Asia-Pacific Region (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chile, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand) convened in Kunming, China to discuss forest governance enhancement in the context of timber legality verification during a training workshop from 2 to 13 July, 2015.

APFNet collaborates with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) to enhance capacity building in Pacific Island Region

On June 15, 2015, an agreement was signed between APFNet and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC),which initiated a project “Capacity Building towards Effectiveness Implementation of Sustainable Forest Management Practices in Fiji, Tonga and Niue”.

APFNet Council successfully established in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar

The first APFNet council meeting was hosted by the Myanmar Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry.

27 to 28 April 2015 – The Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) convened its first meeting of the Council in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar. In attendance were over 35 participants from 17 APFNet member economies as well as five member organizations and one observer organization. The Myanmar Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry (MoECF) hosted the meeting. Mr. U Win Tun, Union Minister of MoECF, and Mr. Qu Guilin, Executive Director of APFNet opened the meeting and announced the formal establishment of the APFNet Council.

APFNet launches new project on watershed rehabilitation to help address Beijing’s long-standing water supply challenges

9 April 2015 – APFNet officially launched the project: “Rehabilitation and Management of Degraded Forests in Beijing’s Miyun Reservoir Watershed” during a tree-planting ceremony at the Miyun Reservoir Watershed near Beijing. Eleven members of the APFNet Board of Directors joined Chairperson Zhao Shucong in inaugurating the project.

APFNet Fund Donation Ceremony held in Beijing

8 April 2015 – The Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) Fund Donation Ceremony was held in Beijing. In attendance were twelve members of the APFNet Board of Directors, including Chairperson and Minister of the Chinese State Forestry Administration (SFA) Mr. Zhao Shucong, as well as representatives of the fund’s various contributors. SFA Deputy Director Liu Dongsheng hosted the ceremony.
